Abstract

The text analyses the socioeconomic and political dimension of modernity. Modernity has its driving force in the capitalist system. No interpretation of modernity can disregard capitalism. Its infeasibility will be shown through a critical study of its essential elements: unlimited accumulation of capital/wealth, exploitation of human labor and the devastation of nature; as well as its theoretical framework (liberalism) and the role of the State. This approach will serve as the base for a theological reading of the infeasibility of capitalism.
