Recent advances in research on Brazilian philosophy allow for deeper discussions on the method and figure of the philosopher within us. In this sense, I propose a qualitative, historical analysis to outline the method and figure of the philosopher in the 21st century. After situating the state of the art of discussions on the topic in Latin America, I explain how metaphilosophy has been gaining centrality in national philosophy. From there, I characterise the metaphilosophical method employed by Ivan Domingues and apply it to the catalogue of national philosophers present in a work by Enrique Dussel. I contrast Dussel's catalogue with the possible reception of these philosophers in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. From there, it becomes possible to explain which names would best occupy the position of scholars and globalised cosmopolitan intellectuals in Brazil.
