First, we de- scribe the interweaving of Marcuse’s life with the history of the Institute of Social Research at Frankfurt University. After this, we comment on production of Marcuse as a member of the Institute, and, finally, we examine his works after he was formally dismissed from the Institute but remained loyal to the guiding principles of Critical Theory.
