HUET’S AND HUME’S SCEPTICISM WITH REGARD TO REASON

Abstract

Despite being much less known nowadays, the problem of skepticism with regard to reason was a very relevant subject among authors of the 17th and 18th centuries, in the same way that skepticism with regard to external world. In this sense, I pursue to present Huet’s impacts on Hume’s position concerning skepticism with regard to reason on Treatise of human nature, particularly from the Pyrrhonian version elaborated by Huet of the Cartesian argument of the “deceiving God”. Thus, as I will show in this paper, Hume is at least correct in associating the skeptical argument with regard to reason with Pyrrhonian skepticism.
