Abstract: When writing a text of an essayistic nature and approaching a generic theme, therefore outside the parameters of academic specialization, several risks can be easily pointed out: banality, eclecticism, thematic confusion. The reader may then come across an indigestible, unserviceable or even unpalatable mixture. There is no way to avoid such risks, although, I believe, we must take them as a way of resisting the tendency of excessive disciplinary fragmentation and the dispersion of knowledge. Certainly, authors who bet on the audacity of the generic text do not always have the talent required for the form of the essay. However, the lack of talent does not justify the obscurity in relation to the ideas that are intended to be presented. In order to minimize the possible difficulties, my text is divided into three parts: a theoretical clarification, a small outline of historical remembrance with the aim of circumscribing the notion of “modern humanism” and an attempt to explain what its “tragic sense” would consist of. ”. It is hoped, therefore, to provide some clarification of the theme of this text, which takes up some ideas previously proposed and already published.
