Abstract

This study aims to investigate the conditions that led Foucault to tackle the notion of the experience of the flesh and defend its centrality in the author's genealogy of subjectivity. Our conclusion intends to show that such an experience, as Foucault understood it, presupposes the analysis of a set of events and of spiritual exercises that took place in the second, third and fourth centuries.
