VERITAS FILIA TEMPORIS? O CONHECIMENTO HISTÓRICO E A DISTINÇÃO ENTRE FILOSOFIA E TEORIA DA HISTÓRIA

Resumo

A relação de dependência das circunstâncias temporais no estabelecimento da verdade é uma questão recorrente no conhecimento histórico. Entre a fugacidade do relativo e a rigidez do dogmático perde-se a pretensão de racionalidade científica. A História, como conhecimento racional argumentativo demonstrável, precisa de uma relação veraz confiável entre sua narrativa e sua base empírica. Para possibilitar tal, propõe-se sete requisitos de verossimilhança razoáveis e universais: o realismo mitigado; a convenção metódica de controle de qualidade do conhecimento; a comunidade lingüística e cultural de sentido; a aptidão da racionalidade humana a conhecer o passado; estados de coisas do passado são reconstrutíveis; crítica de fontes para a reconstrução do passado; razoabilidade linguística e cultural da narrativa e da metanarrativa. A conjunção desses fatores permite firmar verdades ou certezas relacionais.

Abstract: The dependence on temporal circumstances to establish the truth of past events is a recurrent issue of historical knowledge. However, the claim of scientific rationality can get lost between the fugacity of relativity and the rigidity of dogmatism. History, as a demonstrable rational knowledge, needs to establish a truthful and reliable relationship between the narrative and its empirical basis. In order to make possible such an enterprise, seven reasonable and universal requisites of truthfulness are proposed: moderate realism; the methodical convention concerning knowledge quality control; the linguistic and cultural community of sense; man's rational aptitude of knowing the past; the reconstructibility of past things; the criticism of sources for the reconstruction of the past; the linguistic and cultural rationality of narrative and meta-narrative. The conjunction of these factors allows the assertion of relational truths or certainties.
