A EVOLUÇÃO DOS SERES VIVOS
Resumo
Este artigo apresenta uma visão geral do problema da evolução orgânica, analisando inicialmente, de forma breve, as idéias de Lamarck e Darwin. Outros temas abordados: moderna teoria da evolução, teoria sintética, mutação, seleção natural, monomorfismo, polimorfismo, aptidão darwiniana, sobrevivência do mais apto, carga genética, níveis evolutivos, taxas evolutivas, evolução molecular e teoria do equilíbrio intermitente. O autor acha que os fatores propostos pela teoria sintética para explicar toda a evolução funcionam muito bem nos seus níveis mais baixos (microevolução e mesoevolução), sendo insuficientes para a os mais elevados (especialmente megaevolução). Dois tópicos finais são mencionados: a teoria da evolução está provada? Que pensar dela hoje?
Abstract: This article presents a general view on the problem of organic evolution. It starts with a brief analysis of the ideas of Lamarck and Darwin. Then, the following subjects are briefly analysed: modem theory of evolution, synthelic theory, mutation, natural selection, monomorphism, polymorphism, Darwinian fitness, survival of the fittest, genetic load, levels of evolution, evolutionary rates, molecular evolution, and theory of the punctuated equilibrium. It is the opinion of the author that the factors proposed by synthetic theory to explain the evolution as a whole may be accepted as reasonable only for its lower levels (microevolution and mesoevolution), there being no scientific reasons to accept them as factors of the higher levels (especially megaevolution). Two final topics are mentioned: Is the theory of evolution proved? What can we think about it today?
