RELIGIÃO E MODERNIDADE FILOSÓFICA

Resumo

Nessa comunicação, apresentada a um Seminário sobre "Religião e Modernidade" (Petrópolis, setembro de 1990), o A. discute primeiramente o conceito de modernidade desde o ponto de vista filosófico e conclui pela equivalência conceptual entre modernidade e pensamento filosófico. Estuda, em seguida, a relação entre religião e modernidade filosófica ao longo da filosofia antiga e medieval, expressa na idéia de uma teologia racional e a dissolução dessa relação na filosofia pós-cartesiana, sendo a teologia racional substituída pela filosofia da religião. A conclusão discute o problema da relação entre religião pensada e religião vivida no contexto da modernidade contemporânea.

Summary: In this paper, presented at a seminar on "Religion and Modernity" (Petrópolis, RJ, September, 1990) the author begins by discussing the concept of "modernity" from the philosophic point of view and concludes with the conceptual equivalence between modernity" and "philosophic thought". The author goes on to study the relation between religion and philosophical modernity along the course of ancient and medieval philosophy, explicit in the idea of a rational theology and the dissolution of this relation in the post-Cartesian philosophy, being the rational theology substituted by the philosophy of religion. The conclusion discusses the problem of the relation between thought out religion and lived religion in the context of contemporaneous modernity.
