A RERUM NOVARUM DENTRO DE SEU CONTEXTO SOCIOCULTURAL
Resumo
O contexto social da Rerum Novarum. A Encíclica Rerum Novarum de Leão XIII inaugurou uma nova fase da cultura ocidental, uma modalidade do magistério eclesial e uma nova época na história da Igreja. O explosivo nascer da era industrial e a conseqüente revolução socioeconômica caracterizaram a crise da cultura ocidental nos fins do século XIX. Respondendo aos desafios sociais emergentes nessa crise, uma plêiade de pensadores católicos comprometidos com a justiça social elaborou um conjunto de orientações doutrinais e critérios de ação, criando um clima propício para a promulgação da Rerum Novarum. Nossos Bispos, convocados a Roma por Leão XIII em 1899, para o primeiro Concilio Plenário Latino-Amerícano, contribuíram eficazmente para que na legislação social de nossos países fosse aplicada a doutrina Social da Rerum Novarum.
Summary: The social context of the Rerum Novarum. The Enciclical Rerum Novarum of Leo XIII began a new phase in Western culture, leading to a modality of ecclesial magisterium and a new period in the history of the Church. The explosion of the industrial age and the consequent socio-economic revolution characterize the crisis of Western culture at the end of the 19th. century. Responding to the emerging social challenges of this crisis a group of catholic thinkers elaborated a complete scheme of doctrinal orientations and criteria of action, creating a favorable climate for the promulgation of Rerum Novarum. Our Bishops called to Rome by Leo XIII in 1899 for the first Plenary Latin American Council, contributed positively so that in the social legislation of our countries the social doctrine of Rerum Novarum could be implied.
