CIÊNCIA SOCIAL TEÓRICA E EXPLICAÇÃO CIENTÍFICA

Resumo

No contexto da função e do uso de teorias nas ciências sociais, discute-se seu papel no âmbito da ciência histórica. O problema analisado considera o uso, na história, de teorias elaboradas em outras especialidades, e a produção nela, de teorias. Detém-se a reflexão, de início, na formação de conceitos, na tipificação dos objetos e em sua explicação. Na segunda parle cuida-se de teorias globais na ciência histórica e, na terceira, pondera-se a questão dos valores nas ciências sociais. Tendo Max Weber por interlocutor, o presente trabalho dele diverge, ao concluir que a reflexão teórico-metodológica, nas ciências sociais, destina-se a explicar, e não meramente a duplicar o que estuda.

Summary: In the context of an inquiry on the function and use of theories in social sciences, this paper debates their role in historical science. The problem under scrutiny considers the use, in history, of theories elaborated within other fields, as well the production of theories in history itself. The reflection begins with the analysis of concept-formation, types of objects and their explanation. The second part examines global theories in historical science and the third ponders the questions of values in social sciences. Taking Max Weber's ideas as a reference, the present paper dissents from them, to conclude that the theoretical and methodological speculation in the social sciences has the goal of explaining and not merely duplicating what it investigates.
