A CRIANÇA BRASILEIRA NO SÉCULO XIX NA PERCEPÇÃO DE VIAJANTES INGLESES E NORTE-AMERICANOS: UMA ANÁLISE COMPARADA

Resumo

Este artigo estuda os vínculos entre o mundo infantil e o dos adultos, o significado da maternidade e o papel das amas, as relações interétnicas e suas conseqüências sobre a formação moral das crianças numa sociedade escravista. As situações descritas pelos viajantes são comparadas e contrastadas com experiências equivalentes que tiveram lugar em seus próprios países na mesma época.

Summary: This article deals with the bonds established in a slave society between infants and the world of adults, the meaning of motherhood and the mammy's role, inter-ethnic relations and its conseqüentes on the moral formation of contrasted with equivalent experiences taking place in their own countrices al that time.
