Abstract: This article aims to introduce in large lines the Foucault's reading about parresía and its relationship with its opponents: flattery and rhetoric. Investigating how parresía is embedded into the ethics of self-care and self-government and government of others, from the relationship between subject & truth and also master & disciple. The last courses of Michel Foucault at the Collège de France show a live dialogue between Foucault and the historian of philosophy Pierre Hadot. Hadot's thesis that philosophy is a way of life is read by Foucault as ethics of self-care. Foucault's classes on parresía are the result of observations made by Foucault that ethics of self-care comes from intimate relationship between subject & truth and also master & disciple.
