Sixty years after the Second Vatican Council, we see that the Church is far from what it could have achieved to support the building of the Kingdom of God and shepherd its sheep more effectively.
Through a critical analysis approach considering ISO standards, we seek to present some examples of actions resulting from the Second Vatican Council, which could have been enhanced if the Church had used the principles of the Quality Management System to operationalize its actions. This article seeks to reflect and present some suggestions for ways to increase, with quality and effectiveness, new actions arising from the missionary and evangelical spirit of the Second Vatican Council. When we analyze the Conciliar Constitutions as the “Vision of God” for the Church, we make a correlation between them and the definitions and standards of ISO9001:2015 and ISO10015:2020, which are used to guarantee the quality and effectiveness of organizations. To this end, we use the example of the Basic Ecclesial Communities and how the lack of strategic and systematic direction caused us to miss the opportunity to benefit from such luminous inspiration.
Finally, we propose one path among many others, of using the technical knowledge of the secular world, to identify potential improvements that can be achieved if we begin as soon as possible to systematize our actions to apply the constitutions in a more human and active Church in the world.
