DE VOLTA AO “QUARTO VISUAL”

Resumo

Este artigo trata da surpresa que se expressa na pergunta: como não posso ver algo em mim mesmo? Nesses termos, “voltar ao quarto visual” parece indicar um limite da gramática: algo de que nem eu nem ninguém pode se apropriar. Mas, se é mais fácil considerar que aquele que está do lado de fora não pode entrar nele, é bem mais estranho que eu não possa considerá-lo como meu. Noutras palavras, se o quarto material em que estou sentado não pode sequer ser comparado ao quarto visual, então não parece haver critério algum que identifique o que eu vejo, e, nesse caso, se está apenas lidando com uma ilusão. No entanto, num outro sentido, nosso interesse em tematizar o “quarto visual” sugere que a sua gramática não está dependurada no vazio, e que, ao contrário, a dissolução desse “paradoxo” ocorre quando compreendemos a complexidade da linguagem ordinária.

Abstract: The most surprising question is: how is it possible that I cannot see something that is inside me? In these terms, to come back to the “visual room” seems to point out some limit of grammar, something that cannot be taken either by me or by anyone. But if it is easy to say that he who is inside the visual room cannot go inside it, is mysterious that I can think of it as mine. In other words, if the physical room where I am seating now cannot even be compared with the “visual room”, then it seems that there is no criterion by means of which I can identify what I see. In this case, we have here a mere illusion. However, in another sense of that expression, our interest in examining the question of “visual room” suggests that this grammar is not floating in the void, but rater that the resolution of that “paradox” takes place when we understand the complexity of the ordinary language.
