VIRTUDE E DEVER NAS TEORIAS ÉTICAS MODERNAS NAUFRÁGIO E SOBREVIVÊNCIA DE UMA NOVIDADE ANTIGA

Resumo

Este artigo apresenta o status quaestionis das noções de virtude e dever nas teorias éticas modernas. O debate gira em torno do diagnóstico da enfermidade da “ética moderna” que, tendo negligenciado o tema da virtude, se preocupou exclusivamente com o problema da determinação da ação justa ou correta e com a questão da justificação do dever ou da obrigação de realizar ações justas e de seguir determinadas regras. Para remediar o desconcertante estado da discussão ética na cultura ocidental, alguns autores propõem resgatar a noção de virtude a partir da ótica aristotélico-tomista, explorando a questão do sujeito agente como autor da própria ação.

Abstract: This article presents the status quaestionis about virtue notions and duty in the modern ethical theories. The debate moves round the diagnosis of the illness modern ethics that, neglecting the virtue theme, worried exclusively about the determination problem of the justice or correct actions and about the justification question of duty or obligation to release just actions and follow certain rules. To remedy the disconcerting state of the ethical discussion in the western culture, some authors intend to rescue the virtue notion starting from the Aristotelian-thomist optics, exploring the agent as author of the own action.
