A NOÇÃO DE “JUSTA MEDIDA” NO POLÍTICO (284 A-285 C) DE PLATÃO

Resumo

O artigo esboça o sentido “ético” dos diálogos tardios, concentrando-se unicamente no Político de Platão. Nesse diálogo apresenta-se uma ética com indicações historicamente mais realizáveis. A reflexão platônica sobre a “justa medida”, a “mistura” ou “combinação” de prazer e inteligência no Político e no Filebo, por exemplo, constituirá o embrião de toda a ética aristotélica, e Platão reiterará que a felicidade dependerá da devida subordinação e harmonia entre os bens da alma (as virtudes, reconhecidas como tais e por todos desejadas como bens), os bens relativos ao corpo (beleza, saúde, vigor) e os bens externos (nascimento, riqueza, honras na cidade). Enfim, redimensionando sua teoria ética, Platão lançou elementos que permitirão reabilitar o valor dos bens humanos que, sendo mutáveis e instáveis, não deixam, porém, de ser componentes indispensáveis de uma vida boa.

Abstract: The article sketches the “ethical” meaning of Plato's late dialogues, focusing exclusively on the Statesman of Plato. This dialogue presents a pattern of ethics that is historically more achievable. The platonic reflection on “the just measure” and the “mixture” or the “combination” of pleasure and intelligence in both the Statesman and Philebus, for example, will constitute the embryo of all Aristotelian ethics. And Plato will reiterate that happiness will depend on the due subordination and harmony between goods related to the soul (the virtues, recognized as such and for all desired as goods), goods related to the body (beauty, health, vigor) and external goods (birth, wealth, honors in the city). At last, re-dimensioning his ethical theory, Plato launched elements that will allow rehabilitating the value of the human goods which, while changeable and unstable, remain indispensable components of a good life.
