O CONCEITO DE PESSOA NA TEORIA MORAL CONTRATUALISTA: UMA CRÍTICA A DAVID GAUTHIER

Resumo

O objetivo deste artigo é examinar a questão das disposições morais no contexto do contratualismo moral. Minha hipótese é que David Gauthier, um dos principais representantes contemporâneos do contratualismo moral, não dá uma resposta satisfatória à pergunta sobre o papel que as disposições morais desempenham no âmbito de nossas práticas morais. Procuro mostrar que a razão pela qual o problema das disposições morais não é satisfatoriamente explicado no contexto da teoria moral contratualista decorre da própria concepção de pessoa em questão nesse tipo de teoria moral.

Abstract: This paper aims at examining the question of moral dispositions in the context of moral contractualism. My hypothesis is that David Gauthier, one of the most important modern supporters of moral contractualism, does not satisfactorily answer the question concerning the role played by moral dispositions in our moral praxis. As I intend to show, the reason why the question of moral dispositions is not satisfactorily elucidated in the context of moral contractualism, is related to the very conception of self underlying this kind of moral theory.
