POLÍTICA, TEOLOGIA E FILOSOFIA NAS LEIS DE PLATÃO

Resumo

Nas Leis, Platão elabora o modelo de um regime político (politeía) que poderíamos qualificar de teocrático, isto é, um regime político em que a lei civil é concebida não como um artifício humano, mas como uma norma divina derivada de um métron transcendente. Ora, no contexto desse regime teocrático das Leis, a religião possuirá, evidentemente, uma onipresença inequívoca, pervadindo todos os aspectos da vida política e social e funcionando, assim, como o fundamento precípuo da moralidade pública da cidade. O objetivo principal do presente artigo é discutir essa relação entre política e religião nas Leis de Platão, a partir de uma análise do discurso teológico contido no livro X desse diálogo.

Abstract: In the Laws, Plato conceives a model of political regime (politeía) that we could call theocratic, i.e., a political regime in which civil law is thought not as a human artifact, but as a divine norm derived from a transcendent metron. In the context of the Laws' theocratic regime, religion will evidently pervade every aspect of political and social life and will function as the fundamental basis of public morality in the city. The main objective of this paper is to discuss the relationship between religion and politics in Plato's Laws, through an analysis of the theological reflection present in book X of this dialogue.
