O CÂNON VICENTINO E A TRADIÇÃO CATÓLICA

Resumo

A vida eclesial vê-se desafiada pelas inúmeras transformações do mundo. A comunidade cristã necessita de princípios não só para o discernimento e a interpretação, mas também para o progresso no imenso conjunto da Tradição que lhe foi legado. Isso permitirá identificar o núcleo central e os elementos que precisam ser transformados. Juntamente com as Escrituras, o Magistério e o sensus fidei, dentre outros, o cânon vicentino coloca-se como mais um desses critérios norteadores. Proposto por São Vicente de Lérins no século V, tem sido frequentemente desconsiderado, mas indubitavelmente ainda oferece uma base segura para o trato de diversas questões atuais.

Abstract: Eclesial life has been consistently challenged by our deeply transforming world. The Christian community needs principles in order to discern and to interpret, as well as in recognizing progress within the vast treasury of transmitted Tradition. This allows for an identification of its hard core and of the elements needing transformation. Proposed by the fifth century theologian St. Vincent of Lérins, the vicentine canon, together with the Sacred Scriptures, the Magisterium and the sensus fidei, among others, is included in these criteriological norms. Although somewhat eclipsed in contemporary theological discourse, it may still be invoked in important issues that have preoccupied the Church in recent times.
